How many brown avocados or spoiled salad greens does it take for us to learn we should probably be keeping better track of what’s happening in our refrigerators? Samsung is out to cut this bad habit for good. At this year’s CES exhibit, the company introduced a ton of new kitchen products, a number of which are unsurprisingly powered by artificial intelligence. One of its most practical additions is the 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub. The fresh tech does a lot, but most important, you can program it to warn you when items in your fridge are nearing their expiration date—and then ask it to tell you what to make with them.
Essentially, the smart internal camera can recognize items being placed in and out of the refrigerator (specifically, it can identify up to 33 different food items). With the list that is available and editable on the Family Hub door screen, you can manually add expiration-date information for things you’d like to keep track of and your refrigerator will send out alerts for items before reaching that date. That way you can actually come up with a meal plan that puts those soon-to-be-spoiled goods to use rather than filling up your trash can or compost bin.
You don’t have to go digging through your cookbooks to find a recipe—this fridge can help with that, too. Like other Samsung refrigerators that feature the standard Family Hub screen, you can access the company’s meal planner app and sort through ideas. Or to make things even easier, you can use the new “Image to Recipe” function, which allows you to click a photograph of a food item in your fridge and generate recipes from there. Other super-convenient additions to this AI-enabled fridge include: a Fridge Manager feature, which monitors the status of the water filter and will offer you the ability to order a replacement one on Amazon ASAP, and screen mirroring (but only for Galaxy smartphone owners).
As we wait to hear when Samsung will officially release its new four-door fridge, and how much it will cost, here are some of our other favorite products from the company, including its chic-looking jet vacuum and the customizable 4-Door Flex fridge (as seen in Concrete Collaborative founder Kate Balsis’s home).
